It’s so fucking annoying when a popular sub has or gets compromised mods, for any type of propaganda.

Also, fuck Putin.

What I’m going to say is probably biased after I’ve cracked some tins because I’m a communist, but.

lemmy.ml is a case aside; the issue with its admin team is not “tankiness”, but lack of transparency and willingness to gaslight users, Reddit style, to believe that they’re enforcing a small set of rules, when the actual rules are wider, and full of hidden rules. Three examples:

    • criticism against either the Russian Federation or the People’s Republic of China - two governments - gets silenced as “rule 1”, i.e. xenophobia. This is specially bad coming from communists that were supposed to understand the difference between a population and a part of an abstract structure of power.
    • you can’t fucking hold a decent conversation with lolbertarians¹ without the lolbertarian getting “magically” banned as “rule 2”. If you don’t get the difference between a disagreement and rudeness, why did you even leave Reddit, you bloody spez wannabes?
    • the whole fiasco handling ani.social. First one of them lies² that ani.social hosts CSAM (it doesn’t), to justify defederation and removing it from the join-lemmy page³; then as c/anime users were talking about migrating the community to ani.social, wrecking two discussions about it under the bullshit claim that it was “doxxing” said admins⁴. (It’s actually a bit worse.)

If it was just “their server, their rules”, it would be a-OK. Except that it’s more like “we have rules lol. We won’t tell you all of them lmao. And if you break the hidden ones we’re going to gaslight you and other suckers = users into believing that you broke one of the stated rules.”

I think it’s no secret that .ml and lemmygrad used to be hosted by the same people on the same server, though they seem to have split off these days.

It’s more than that. Without saying who’s who, the admin teams of LG and lemmy.ml overlap.

And… frankly I used to be a lemmygrad user, a lot of those actions (such as getting rid of people criticising communism) wouldn’t be out-of-place in LG, because it’s transparently an instance for us commies. lemmy.ml is not.

[Sorry for the rambling. I’ve been with this shit in my chest since the ani.social fiasco.]

    1. By “lolbertarian” I mean those muppets who claim that capitalism will solve social issues. Sure, I disagree with them; but it’s a mistake to lump them alongside the alt right as “BIGOTS FUCK OFF”.
    2. I’m being kind by saying that they’re just lying. The alternative would be worse.
    3. To be fair with the same admin team: another of the admins reverted the decision regarding join-lemmy. Props to that admin.
    4. Worth noting that all lemmy.ml admins use pseudonyms. It gets worse for a specific admin that uses a pseudonym that implies a shared account.
