Musk has been trying to get as much publicity as possible it would seem. The media is probably participating because it’ll generate clicks from those who vehemently oppose him and those who worship him.

If it’s not taped incredibly well, you can pry it open. It’s hard if they actually used good tape and/or a lot of tape to close it.

He’s seemingly trying to create a suite of social networking and other tools. Maybe to compete with Google and the likes. Ambitious for sure. I don’t know if he’ll have any success given how Twitter is going.

Your last suggestion is basically what YouTube premium offers. I don’t think I would personally watch ads voluntarily, but I’ve seen similar systems in some games. Smite (at least used to) let you watch ads to get gems that you can use to buy cosmetics.

It’s not that bizarre. They don’t have to serve you the content without showing you the ads that make the platform profitable. The freedom goes both ways. I use an ad blocker too, but I don’t think that YouTube is really doing anything wrong here. (Other than possibly ruining their own platform, but that’s their problem that they’re making for themselves.)

Do you know about tape backup systems for consumers? From my (brief) search it looks like tape is more economical at the scale used by a data center, but it seems very expensive and more difficult for consumers.

For how janky driverless cars can be, I am not optimistic that we’re close. I wouldn’t want a huge bus full of people getting confused on the road. If driverless cars didn’t require so much human intervention to function normally, I would have a different feeling.

Looks like it’s to lower activity for the holidays, which is a good move. Hopefully they don’t need all hands on deck for some kind of urgent issue until after the holidays are over.

Driverless cars can work if enough vehicles are replaced with them. I agree that a few driverless cars in a sea of regular drivers is not optimal though.

I’d rather a simpler phone at this point. I don’t think I’ve ever looked at my phone and felt that it’s too small. I can think of other ways that I’d want phones to be more functional, like connecting to external peripherals and a monitor.

Lots of people are excited about folding phones too though, so more power to them if companies are willing to go that way.

For a $100k device, I would expect better long term support.

Do linux and privacy focused consumers actually make up a large portion of their market share? Linux users still make up a small portion of desktop users, and not even all of those really care much about privacy.
