We both know it wasn’t even Che Guevara T-Shirt socialism. It was definitely “I think the nordic model is pretty cool” socialism.
Japan-based ML. Interests in privacy, tech, cybersecurity.

the only viable left leaning political party in the US?
I might be misunderstanding you, so I apologize if that is the case, but if you are referring to the Democrats they are far from left leaning. They aren’t even center leaning.
You can’t even say they have a better track record than the Republicans. They bomb countries as much (or in recent years even more) than the Republicans. They advocate for wars. They fund ICE even more than the Republicans. They stand up just as much for reproductive rights (read: not at all). They just do all of it while waving a rainbow flag.
I really hope you meant the Greens or the CPUSA; which have their own issues but are certainly more left than either the Democrats or Republicans.
We never had blockbusters here, but our local equivalent is actually still doing quite well. I think streaming movies is more popular, but a lot of people go there to rent music CDs. Actually buying physical music albums is really expensive.
We still have Toys R Us too actually, I think it does pretty well here for the most part.
So I guess my answer defaults to Radioshack.
I’ve said before, but we need to stop making dystopian films/tv because it just gives them ideas.
Cancelling the US subscription is really hard, they actually charge you a premium for the cancellation service. I have been working on it for a while, but the customer service is just atrocious.
Aa, I see you are interested in both our Premium Entry and Egress packages? If you subscribe to both now for only $89.99 a month, you will get 200 entries AND exits from your vehicle for free, every month! That’s a distinct savings over the monthly cost of $49.99 for each package individually. Enjoy additional entries and exits for only $1 each, if you go over your limit.
Unless you were on explicitly communist subs, reddit was extremely hostile to communists. You could definitely get banned from some subs just by association.
Porn was everywhere though, yeah.
They are communist in name only.
Russia hasn’t been communist in even name since it was part of the USSR. The only people who really consider them communist are liberals who don’t understand the difference between the USSR and the Russian Federation.
I am not the Official Spokesman of Communism, but most communities I have seen and participate in aren’t pro-modern Russia. We might be against things like banning anything with “russian” in the name, but that doesn’t mean we see them as the second coming of the USSR. The Russian Federation is still an imperialist capitalist nation as much as any of the others.
You have the patsocs and stuff that might be more on board with Russia, but we don’t really claim them.
It comes up in non-political communities when people make political posts (like this one) but that seems fair game. I don’t really see people shoe-horning it in much otherwise.
Sambal is fantastic. Gochujang is too, and pretty much required for any kind of korean cooking.
The amount of work required to make a decent turkey simply isn’t worth it when so many better poultry options exist. The best prepared turkey isn’t going to come close to a good roast duck.
Duck and quail are absolutely amazing, and way better than chicken. I really like pigeon too.
Quail eggs are the best, albeit annoying to work with.
Outside of some fad diets, there isn’t really much of a push among anyone to cut plants out of your diet though. There’s no need to make fake plant-products generally.
If we include seafood, I definitely do.
But to be fair, I don’t think the average person is eating that varied a diet. I am not going to make the claim people on a plant-based diet can’t get protein, they can, but they probably aren’t getting 10+ different sources of it either.
It’s the only browser we can use in my office, so have gotten pretty used to it. It’s honestly not that bad, they’ve come a long way since the IE days.
It’s not my home-use browser, but it’s absolutely serviceable.
People on lemmy.ml thinking we just really enjoy Mali.
It’s actually been super refreshing to, generally, be able to say I am a Marxist-Leninist and not immediately get downvoted into oblivion. There are still some of the kneejerk reactions to the CPC, but even then people seem more willing to engage on good-faith even with disagreements.
Despite being an extremely diverse country, nobody is going to try to tell you that China has magically solved racism, they haven’t. You hear stories like that horrible washing machine ad that went out, but the government also cracks down on things like that. I feel like there is a lot ignorance-based racism as opposed to malice-based racism. Still an issue, but people are usually more willing to change in the former case.
I have black friends that left the US to live in China and I can say that they definitely feel safer. To be totally fair, that’s just a few anecdotes and not a wide study or anything like that. I don’t think that is exclusive to China though either, I have heard nearly the exact same things from people who have come from the US to my country.
Be wary of anyone telling you that a government that has historically been horrible TO ITS OWN PEOPLE is for some arbitrary reason better than the west
The government that has lifted more people out of poverty than any other government in the world? How dare they not imprison people and force them into slave labour. There’s a reason that the CPC is overwhemingly popular amongst the people.
The government that hasn’t been at war with another country in over forty years, and builds railroads and hospitals instead of bombing them? Ask Laos whether the US or China has been better to work with.
It’s not really arbitrary reasons, there are a lot of concrete reasons. It’s not perfect, they are still working on a lot of things, but most things are constantly improving and it isn’t hard to see why people might prefer it.
If you are advocating others use critical thought, I would argue the same. Step outside the “China bad” propaganda for just a second.
I am a ML and everything I have seen of Jenkem’s posting here makes me think they are probably a leftist.
We probably don’t agree on everything, but they’re no liberal.
