My dad is pretty unhappy with his Mercedes EQS which costs significantly more than the model S, it also had issues with loose interior trim and panel gaps. And despite the fairly high price point its still riddled with shitty plastic interior. It kind of feels like all manufacturers are rushing stuff out the door at the cost of QC.
Technically the only thing you’re allowed to fiddle with, while driving, is what you can operate from the steering wheel. You’re not supposed to fiddle with radio, AC etc. from the center console while driving even if it’s physical buttons.
I know people don’t drive like this, but you’re only allowed to take your hands off the steering wheel for changing gears if driving a manual, otherwise it’s two hands on there at all times…technically
No point in keeping the torrent if I no longer have the file. Unless it’s something I know I will re-watch/use multiple times, I delete the file after I’ve used it.
They also don’t ship with the yoke by default anymore, the default is a regular round one and have been for a while.
Physical buttons have wiring harness failure, mechanical failure, and software failure…pretty much exactly the same amount as the touchscreen solution.
What boggles my mind is that cheap, snappy, easy-to-use touchscreen interfaces have been a solved issue for well over a decade with the proliferation of smartphones…why the hell do car manufacturers suck so much at implementing it!? They’re all slow bug-ridden shitshows.
A high(er) end smartphone has a battery capacity of approx. 0.019kWh (5000mAh), a gtx3080 has a max power draw of 320W so running that (at max load) for two hours is 0.64kWh, which is equivalent to fully charging ~34 smartphones.
According to Phoronix, Ampere’s new CPUs have so many cores that Linux doesn’t support systems when two of Ampere’s 192-core chips (384 total cores) are installed in a single server. For now, the ARM64 Linux kernel only supports systems with 256 cores or less. To fix the issue, Ampere has submitted a patch proposing that the Linux kernel core limit be raised to 512
If you’re already at 384 cores in a dual-processor setup, isn’t raising the limit to 512 too little? Why not just go for 1024 now that they’re at it, especially since the method they proposed doesn’t increase kernel image memory footprint.

Yes it does, i use the one from my local library even though it’s not a US library. Everything is checked out on my regular library account, i just access the materials (usually the English books I read) through libby. I’m granted access to Libby through my local library.
There are very good and fairly easy solutions for self hosting smart home functionality. Im using homeassistant which runs locally on my own hardware, and all my smart functionality is controlled locally so it works even without internet. And should my server crash, everything just defaults to normal “dumb” control.
must have been a while since you used HA, i have everything set up without writing a single line of code whatsoever. no custom YAML, no custom python, everything done 100% from the GUI. getting my shelly devices in HA was just as easy as getting them in the Shelly app. I installed the shelly integration (pure GUI from within HA itself, took me 30sec) and all devices were auto-discovered.
Officially supported phones for GrapheneOS are pretty much limited to the latest two generations of Google pixel models.
Piped isn’t working for me either anymore. I was using piped.adminforge.de before, but I’ve tried other instances too without any luck. It won’t load play any videos at all. I can search and find stuff without issues, but I can’t play anything.
