  • Have you considered that it could not be making fun of it but rather them genuinely thinking it’s aesthetically pleasing? Because I kinda agree those photos look great.

Also the concept that something historic HAS to be preserved isn’t universal across all cultures, even though it’s very common. Personally I think it’s nice trying to do that, but things will eventually be destroyed and that’s how it goes, might as well find some beauty in it.

Reactions like that aren’t unexpected but they do make me think the responder is an idiot anyway

  • This is quite literally the opposite of how you actually get people to support your cause. Ask any psychologist.

Shutting them out completely might work fine when they’re a tiny minority, but when in some cases a quarter of the population agrees with them enough to vote for them, doing that is simply impossible. They will have reach.

I also still think we need people throwing their morals about manipulating people to the wind and starting to peddle left wing conspiracy theories just like the right wingers are doing. For example with how perfectly it fits there really should be an actual movement behind the whole trump=the biblical antichrist thing in the US, but I’ve only seen it as satire in spaces that are already left wing.

More and more I believe that Mozilla’s current leadership are acting in their own self interest, not for the public good.

I think the salary alone is enough evidence of that. There’s a point, specifics of which will depend on your living situation, at which wanting a higher salary requires the same infinite greed that becoming a billionaire requires. And I’m very sure that this point is far below 1 million dollars a year. Mozilla’s CEO makes over 6 million.

If you feel like you deserve that, you are not fit to lead a nonprofit. You have already proven that you care more about giving yourself obscene wealth than about the benefit of others.

  • They don’t even have that, they just have seperate bins for cans and bottles and people use them, and the only public places to throw away trash are in convenience stores. Which tbf exist like every 400m.

There are exceptions but generally people just keep the city clean because they want to (and social pressure).

Bottle/can deposit system can do a lot to make bins less full though. Japan just doesn’t seem to need it.

  • I feel like this still slightly misses the problem. I couldn’t give less of a shit whether they do or don’t make money from my data, I care that they are tracking so many things for that purpose that I can be identified and many lifestyle habits are visible, which is a problem when the data ends up with someone who wants to use it to spy on me. Which probably has never targeted me specifically, but my data is almost certainly in a tool capable of this. Because this happens frequently.

Of course this happens because they want to make money from it and sell it, but even if they only want it to idk customize my feed to make me like their website more and it never leaves their server, I’d still have to worry about data breaches. Or just someone else taking over and deciding that selling it is great, actually.

And even though I have decided that I personally don’t really care enough to deal with the downsides for quality of life, that doesn’t mean I don’t want this to stop via legal means.

  • People do this with artists too. Especially the moment you offer anything in the way of free commissions for a specific community and such.

Many forums had gfx threads, where members who enjoy putting together banners and such would offer to make something for those who asked. A good friend of mine ran one in a certain game’s forum for a while and the absolute entitlement in which some of those people acted (in regards to speed and nitpicking about minor things) was disgusting. It was maybe 1 in 25 people but it soured the whole thing for her, understandably so. The moment you give people a little finger wrt their requests, one of those people will take the whole hand. The same likely applies to modding.

And I’m sure being a woman doing gaming stuff isn’t helping because there’s way too much sexism in gaming culture, even though there are also a lot of subcommunities that are super welcoming to everyone.

  • For one, they’re not weebs they’re just anime otaku, but also that is only a subset of anime and it’s mostly just a judgemental stereotype. They have ads on the subway for birthday events for popular anime characters ffs. Many pachinko machines are anime themed, including after late night anime which are the negatively stereotyped ones. You know who doesn’t have enough money to be a profitable target for gambling establishments? People with no job living in a basement.

And that’s all while ignoring that pretty much no one chooses that life style voluntarily and I see no reason to make fun of these people.
