  • From the applications section of the Wikipedia article on quantum entanglement:

Entanglement has many applications in quantum information theory. With the aid of entanglement, otherwise impossible tasks may be achieved.

Among the best-known applications of entanglement are superdense coding and quantum teleportation.[85]

Most researchers believe that entanglement is necessary to realize quantum computing (although this is disputed by some).[86]

Entanglement is used in some protocols of quantum cryptography,[87][88] but to prove the security of quantum key distribution (QKD) under standard assumptions does not require entanglement.[89] However, the device independent security of QKD is shown exploiting entanglement between the communication partners.[90]

A lot of Sci Fi and other popular media likes to misconstrue quantum entanglement as allowing for faster than light communication so that they can have faster than light communication in their story, often for narrative purposes to make their galaxy spanning epic possible on a human time scale. But as far as we know, faster than light communication is impossible. It doesn’t mean quantum entanglement is useless or not an important scientific finding though.

  • This is bizarre, I looked and Rochester Minnesota has multiple high speed providers, including two that offer fiber.

And the isp you have is a wireless isp that doesn’t even list Rochester as within its coverage area, they’re intended to serve more rural areas west of the city. On their map it gets close to but not quite in Rochester, but maybe they’re still able to access it (slowly) since it’s a wireless provider.

I’m guessing this is a whoever owns your Airbnb problem rather than a Rochester Minnesota problem. I don’t understand why they would be paying for this rather than use any of the readily available high speed options there.

  • This is real. It’s also one reason why laws against gay sex were on the books in many states until finally overturned by the Supreme Court in 2003 in Lawrence v Texas. Sometimes police would use the laws directly, but more commonly since gay sex was considered a criminal activity, landlords would use it as an excuse to deny lgbt people housing or evict them.

  • There’s a lot of problems with this. Just some include that it’s a blog and doesn’t link to the actual study so it’s impossible to see what’s going on with the this report. They also never explain what this “reliability score” even means or what’s included in that. Then they start doing things like using a percent to compare the scores saying this is percent more reliable. But we still don’t even know what this score is, and comparing as a percent may not make any sense to say depending on what the scores are and how they’re calculated. Unfortunately you can’t really draw any conclusions from what’s in this article.

  • It’s a tough call. Many forums have a rule against changing the title at all. People posting are often used to this and post the title as is from the article. The idea being to help prevent editorializing and clickbait on the part of the poster. Every headline these days though seems to be some variation of blatant clickbait or so and so “slams” this or “destroys” that. At this point I probably trust randos on the internet to make headlines more than publishers.

  • Exactly. I was a big fan of the Batman, adapting the neo noir feel really helped it stand out.

Disney is kind of starting to figure this out on the star wars side with Andor and the Mandalorian. Creating unique stories with varying, structure, genre and tone. Every marvel movie just feels so generic and blends into every other, gets boring. Wanda vision had a glimmer of genius before devolving back to generic marvel meh stuff.
