From what I’ve seen of the Steam Deck there’s not far that it can go to improve as of the moment but in the next 10 years there’s going to be needing another one as newer games like GTA 6 and stuff come around and eventually be on PC the tech is going to really show it’s age.
Even if it was like 16GB on a PC still not worth $1.6k
Yeah I think the only way ‘creators’ will be there is if there is something to move across these larger ones, or at least makes sense to cross-post between YouTube and PeerTube. It’s going to be a hard battle to fight especially with PeerTube limited Space on most instances.
I’ve just signed up for access to MakerTube but yeah I agree, most Instances won’t be able to host 5+ years of content from users making rather the user or the instance to rather have to delete the content or the user to create a ‘second’ channel to upload more. Hopefully with time, storage get’s better and easier but quality of video files (and there for size) will most likely grow so it’s really a cat and mouse game.
I think they are Federated, it’s just hard to find users as one of the people on your instance needs to know what the creator is called before you can expand into, finding there content, this TBH kills the PeerTube experience as you need to use other instances or sources to find the creators you want to watch instead of just working like YouTube does.
A lot of people have jobs doing creative work like YouTube, even before the age of YouTube people where creating stuff such as TV Shows, Radio and Movies (Legacy Media). Sure a lot of people would still create something in free time but the reason people create quality content on places like YouTube is because they are being paid as a bonus, otherwise they wouldn’t be able to spend as much time on the content they create.
The amount of money that is being thrown into hosting alone would not last, sure more do-able with the Fediverse but still not likely to happen.
Yeah it would be nice to see some other coders ideas on the Fediverse. If I knew the first thing when it came to coding I would creating something that would work me, don’t get me wrong I love the Fediverse and what everyones done just sometimes it feels there’s a few things missing

@nodimetotie Pretty much any topic that I enjoy, I try and add a new post when I subscribe to it and see if people are just waiting for new posts.
@RookieNerd I think most instances have there place when it comes to what users may want there user experience to be like;
Mastodon - a more Twitter / X like experience where you can microblog
PixelFed - a more Instagram like experience where you can share Images without the META data collection
Lemmy - more towards a Reddit like experience

The good part of the Fediverse is that we can join together through different parts and interact from our own instances (including ones we run ourselves). The main reasons people seem to not want to move over is because they are used to the social media they are already one, the main people they follow don’t want to move across and Instances are somewhat confusing at first.
My thoughts are that if META does actually make Threads federate then it will not only open people’s mind a bit more when it comes to the Fediverse but maybe other social media’s will follow including METAs Instagram and Facebook making it so you no longer have to worry if you are on ‘X’ website / app instead you just ask for there username and you can chat and see there posts.
@melroy It’s good you’ve worked out the channels are groups / magazines. Sadly I’m not a coder myself so can’t really help on that part, my main goal is spread the word of the Fediverse as a user as well as try and see areas where we can improve as I feel as a user it’s good to see what we might ‘need’ on these amazing platforms like Mbin.
@debounced eventually I’ll work out how to create my own instance but amazing to know that it is simple to migrate if I had a Kbin instance.
@Ashyr Yes most of this is correct, from what Ernest has mentioned he has taken a step back due to personal issues in his life, he’s an amazing developer and glad he made Kbin. The Mbin developers are further alone and have already created an API as well as fixed a lot of bugs, glad to be on board and hope Ernest is feeling better soon.
@ReedLindwurm The Fork was created as there’s a few things that the community of Kbin don’t enjoy as well as the creator of Kbin has had some personal issues as of late and has publicly said they won’t be able to work on the project for a bit. Also Kbin has had a lot of errors and slowdown as of late what Mbin has and is working on fixing regularly what is really nice.
@yogthos I’ve been really enjoying Mbin myself, have submitted a post about PeerTube not being supported and people have been talking about it and I love that they didn’t just shut the idea down straight away. Glad to be here and slowly moving everything I can across.
As of the moment I use Wordpress for my website but it’s not the best for the Fediverse at the moment and a lot of work needs to be put into it to allow posting across the whole Fediverse as I can’t access my posts on Kbin / Mbin what sucks. I really think that POSSE / The Fediverse is the next step for the Internet and I can’t wait to be able to handle my own data more closely to the point I’m looking into hosting my own server in my home for all the Videos, Posts and Data that I know I will love to put out there.

I’m guessing this is because of more sales of the Steam Deck, haven’t got myself one yet but I’d love to as everyone that has gotten ones has said it’s worth the money as well as is a great way to get through your games on the go.
