• what you have already tried- not sure where all those flags are coming from

I would also support the comments here recommending that you use docker. There’s only a small number of Linux distributions and versions where a distribution package installation of jellyfin is fully supported, but even then what you need to do varies across each one. All Linux distributions and versions support docker and the process is essentially the same for all of them.

Ok, aside from Android, I’ve yet to see any serious usage of SELinux in the real world and I’ve been working on cloud tech for years. Acknowledged issues such as complexity aside, it’s really just that much less relevant in a modern, single purpose environment such as Docker/kubernetes/cloud functions/etc

I feel this and some of the other comments in this thread are missing the point. It’s not about me and my followers. It’s about the news sources and topics that I search for or follow. They simply haven’t moved to Mastodon and where notable individuals that I follow have tried, it simply hasn’t worked out due to lack of interest. I’m not interested in the fediverse as a topic in itself, I’m interested in the topics and events I want to follow. Something happens and I can find and read and watch clips about it on Twitter. Not so Mastodon.

I’ve been on Mastodon for over a year and the content simply isn’t there. Several of the people that I follow on Twitter have tried moving or duplicating to Mastodon. They’ve had a fraction of the visibility and engagement from commenters that they would get on Twitter. Invariably after a few months they have essentially given up on it as a primary medium. For me the discoverability is essentially non-existent, which I don’t think is helped by the idea of it being based around instance-local communities, which have no meaning when you’re looking at something like Twitter.

Not seen where protected categories are mentioned but they aren’t vague. The evidence will presumably be that she was thrown out/barred based on an automated camera recommendation. It seems that you’ve misunderstood what the issue is here from cloudflare’s perspective. The customer was using cloudflare IP addresses, which is causing a knock-on effect for the rest of cloudflare’s customers and putting cloudflare as a business themselves at risk. The alternative was for the customer to use their own IP addresses as cloudflare advised . I’m not sure what you think ‘Business development’ teams do but I certainly wouldn’t be expecting engineering advice from them.

If there’s ‘nothing stopping’ it then why has nobody done it? Apple moved from x86 to ARM. Mobile is all ARM. All the big cloud providers are doing their own ARM chips. Intel killed off much of the architectural competition with Itanic in the early 2000’s. Why stop?

If you look at the price for a Mac versus a Windows computer, I think it’s pretty obvious why people might choose a Windows device. For Linux, you really have to know where to look to buy a laptop that is shipped or warrantied with Linux. People tend to buy Windows computers because that’s what’s advertised available, familiar and in their price bracket.

Disclaimer: my main laptop is Mac. I have a secondary one running Linux and although I have a work laptop running Windows, that wasn’t my choice and I don’t have Windows on any personal devices.

Article seems to boil down to ‘I got tired of Spotify recommendations and I am an aspiring musician at an early stage in my professional career so I am recommending Bandcamp and soap boxing about artist revenue share’ . There’s a reason that people, some with local music libraries in the TeraByte range listen to Spotify. There’s also all the competing services - Apple Music; YouTube; Deezer; Tidal; Amazon; etc…

Recommendation to OP: If you are trying to persuade people on something, then decide what point you want to concentrate on, consider the pro’s and cons for your position, and make your point based/reinforced on that. This is simply a rehash/summary of an original article on 404media. Beyond that, you would have to be living under a rock to think that Plex was interested in what their users actually wanted. I ran a Plex server for years until I got fed up with trying to turn off some new self serving misfeature with every new update. It’s been clear for years that offering a self hosting media server solution is simply a bridgehead for Plex to seek every more revenue opportunities, even for paying victims customers. I moved to and recommend Jellyfin- comparable user experience (minus the crap), use the same library, apps for all your devices, open source and completely self contained.

Pretty disingenuous to say that it’s ok because there’s major versions when both RHEL and Centos (historic) had fairly significant changes on minor versions and a major release might last 3-5 years before a newer version became/becomes available.

I fail to see the use case for Centos stream full stop. I wouldn’t want a rolling distro in an enterprise environment and I wouldn’t want a an enterprise distro outside of a server setting. Sure you can run it on a home or personal server, you could also run Debian Sid, Arch, Gentoo, etc.
