This stuff truly has helped make Desktop Linux a force to be reckoned with over the years. So much so that Year of Desktop Linux has been… pretty much every year of the past 20, I think.

On Windows, we all know it’s spackled together shit with shoe strings, spit and duct tape - probably still involving some tech out of the 70s-80s or at least tech debt from back then. We tend to not pretend it’s flawless because no software is.

Sure. People need to earn a living, after all. I’m talking more about general tendencies (unless you want to be extremely literal about that “always”) in how people take in new information. Messing with ego, preconceptions, tribal status or money are great ways to make that really difficult.

Unfortunately not. The cost would be astronomical. Youtube bled money like a stuck pig for a long time, and their monetization has turned out predictably awful, every time.

Don’t get me wrong, the competition would be great, or at least having the option of something… less Youtube. There’s a reason you don’t see a lot of alternatives around, though, and certainly nothing at the same kind of scale.

It’s always hard to get someone to realize a fact that would damage their paycheck.
