I don’t think it’s actually been rolled out to the app yet. When I load up the app, I see the old voice feature, not the new mode.
I love this wild west phase of the Fediverse! Feels like the good ole days of the Internet. Onwards!

This is why Lemmy needs to keep tweaking it’s feed algorithm. I understand why many people rightly have a distaste of social media algorithm fuckery, but Lemmy doesn’t have some of the same bad incentives that an ad driven site like Reddit or twitter might have. A better algorithm will help Lemmy grow and surface interesting posts organically.
The recent feed change to boost smaller communities in 0.19 is a good start, and not showing too many posts in a row from the same community will be another welcome change.
That is actually an excellent point! I’m imagining a Lydia from Skyrim who would actually comment on your actual quest progression without just resorting to canned responses.
While I’m sure there will be a lot of false starts with this tech and it will take a while to iron out the kinks, I’ve been waiting for something like this for a long time. This will probably be similar to the switch from small, limited world maps in games to expansive open-worlds. It’s going to be a massive boost to immersion and will probably lead to some hilarious bugs/unexpected behaviours. Can’t wait!
because I also host an instance
Ah! That rules out filtering. I don’t envy what you have to trawl through all the garbage to keep the rest of us safe!
I totally get what you’re saying, and those things drive me up the wall too.
I’ve ended up curating my feed heavily, blocking and filtering words, users and communities that don’t interest me. Since then, I rarely see any of the whining. If your client supports filtering by keyword, it might dramatically improve your Lemmy experience :)

OMG, LilDumpy left another comment! 📸
Ironically this image is doing what the influencer is supposed to be doing, which is ragebaiting for virality. I’m pretty sure the cigarettes in last two pictures are completely photoshopped precisely so that people fume and rant. I’m willing to bet the captions in the entire set of images is made up. Where did you find this post, OP?
Neat, the customization does help make it look a lot better than the defaults. I wonder why they didn’t just make this the new UI.
I did not know that, I’ll check out the other options, thanks!
Oops, yeah, I did!
I’ve been using LibreOffice as an MS Office replacement for a decade or so, although most of my documents are still on Google docs. The LibreOffice UI seems to have never really improved at all, and even the updating experience is annoying. I don’t understand how such a lucrative productivity app has no developer support behind it?
OpenOffice got me really excited, because that UI seems modern and polished. It’s really unfortunate that it’s mostly we lb based and apparently really slow.
So yeah, 100% agree with you. LibreOffice with the OpenOffice UI would be 🔥
Ah, gotcha. Yeah, reddit had an option like that IIRC.
Block the community?
That’s fair. Instance blocking at the lemmy level will be a hugely popular feature. The backend feature is merging very soon!
I would recommend using a client that allows instance and/or keyword blocking. I believe Sync and Connect on Android offer these features amongst others. I would also raise this issue with the dev of whatever client you’re using, as a lot of clients now have this feature.
The Lemmy backend is also getting instance blocking shortly.
On a post in the feed, hit the three dot button and filter out that user/community or instance. If you want to block rather than just filter, go to the bot user profile and hit block in the top bar.
Yeah, I think this plus the desktop app might be a huge deal
