Then again, I ponied up extra for the disc version of the original ps5 for that exact reason, only to find out the media player software is a giant piece of garbage that was clearly given no effort. So I can’t say I’m too surprised.

I have to disagree a little bit personally. It can be a chore, but sometimes there is a sense that you’re taking this generic piece of tech sold by the millions and tailoring it to your personal preferences. It’s a little silly and superficial, but it can add a little extra enjoyment to that whole experience of getting a new shiny that you’ve been looking forward to.

All that said, paying $95 for the experience of setting up a used exercise bike is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard.

That may be true, but I’d say in the neighborhood of 1/3 - 1/2 of my searches are answered by auto-compiled info cards or similar artifacts.

Just by way of example, my wife and I were casually researching cars lately, and one of the criteria is “does the damn thing fit in our garage??” Typing “Mazda CX-9 length” and having that specific info presented immediately is immensely preferable to clicking into edmonds.com and scrolling through an entire table of specifications.

TBH, that’s significantly better than I would have expected for photos of the stars taken on a phone.

FYI stars (and anything over a few hundred feet actually) is at an infinite distance as far as your phone’s optics are concerned. So it’s not a matter of focusing, it’s a matter of trying to resolve what are effectively pinpoints of light on a black background while in your hand, where the minutest movement will smear them across the sensor.

Photographing the stars is not trivial, even with a real camera and a tripod.

Lots of things about home ownership suck donkey balls, and there are lots of benefits to renting. I’ve done both for significant chunks of my adult life, and while my life situation is currently such that I prefer owning my place, I can absolutely see myself opting to rent under certain circumstances.

It’s just a really weird passive phrasing that implies it was your home before the landlord bought it.

It’s more like they bought a house and then you rented it, at which point it becomes your home.

(Not that the former never happens, I just don’t think the meme was calling out a relatively niche situation.)

There are so many things to criticize about the housing market that it’s weird to rely on tricks of language rather than factual arguments. Like, “Renting out property that you own, and complaining about the upkeep required to keep it rentable” is much more accurate but not as memeable I guess.
