  • Lots of mozzarella, and soft Mexican cheeses and things popular in the US like pepper jack. I’m sticking with hard and well-aged cheeses now. Cheese wasn’t the only part of my diet that put me in the hospital. I started by cutting everything that could possibly be a problem. I’ve been testing putting some things back in. Fortunately I can still eat hot pepper sauces as long as I don’t go crazy. I love me some spicy food!

  • I used to eat massive amounts of cheese daily, way above average even though I’m lactose intolerant. It literally put me in the hospital. For years I had said i could give up meat but I could never give up cheese. Something died in my soul when I made the decision to give up cheeses with lactose. But I still eat my share of Gouda :)

Didn’t China halt all exports of rare earth minerals to the whole world?

The minerals aren’t actually rare, they’re just in low concentrations and difficult to extract. It’s just a matter of time before thet set up mining and precessing somewhere else. It won’t be in the US though. It’ll be somewhere with super cheap labor and no regulations or environmental protections. Which is why it was in China in the first place.

  • It would be cool if it was an option everywhere. I’ve cycle commuted. Hell I commuted on a skateboard for two years. But it is not an option where I live now. We can’t let mandates get ahead of real world options. Let’s make it an option everywhere. The next Dem president will champion this, right?

    Right?

Edit just realized this was posted to the europe community. I’ve lived there a couple of years. You’re light years ahead of anywhere else in the world on this stuff. Good job! But don’t forget the rest of the world needs at minimum a few decades of massive infrastructure investment to come anywhere near what you already have. If we punish people for not riding bikes where riding a bike is impossible, we only lose support.

  • Do you have a source for that? The Wikipedia page about it doesn’t mention it and mentions other sources, which I guess could be tied to the heritage foundation but even clicking through links I couldn’t find any connection.

I’m not saying there isn’t plenty to criticize about the concept and where they place particular individuals. That’s just the first time I’ve heard this claim, and I’m curious about it.

  • Yeah they’re 20, 17 and 15. It could still be a few more years but we’re making changes to keep the living room more free. It’s also been extra challenging because for the last six months my job has been going through big changes and I haven’t had an office at work either, which is why I’ve been working at home more. I can’t tell you how many hours I’ve worked standing in my kitchen, sitting at a conference table alone at work, or working from my car or a cafe or something. It’s actually been really cool, but sometimes really challenging.

  • I don’t have a basement or an attic. My oldest sleeps in part of what once was a one car garage garage. It now is a laundry room and a small bedroom. There are many nights when the only place we don’t have someone sleeping is the kitchen, the laundry room and the two bathrooms. I really could use an office space tho. I’ve been working from home more in 2025 than any other year and my PC is in the living room but there are often teenagers sleeping in there and I like to start working around 5am because my wife gets up for work at 4. I’m just waiting it out at this point, one of these kids will move out someday. Right?

    Right?
