This directory also lists the dev for each app, and most of them are great at being responsive and helpful. Of course sometimes people get busy, but the development community has been great here.

Just googled the paper’s author. Yep, sure enough he seems to contract with “FounderPartners,” which describes itself as, " a team of serial entrepreneurs and M&A advisors."
I am not a coder, nor do I work in or have much knowledge of the industry. But I can tell immediately that this looks like some extra fancy BS. Designing a program to detect the quality and quantity of a person’s code commits sounds like AI mumbo-jumbo from the start. Even if it were technically possible, it would not tell you whether someone is an effective communicator, coordinates with other team members, shares productive ideas, etc.

I’m surprised that the article doesn’t mention Misskey. It’s a Federated platform that connects with Mastodon and the like, and has close to a million users. After Mastodon it’s the most active platform in the Fediverse, and owes most of its popularity to Japanese users.
I’m just going to say it. Pixelfed is empty and Peertube is virtually unusable.
The marketing of the Fediverse as Mastodon + Pixelfed makes no sense. Sometimes Friendica is even still tossed in there.
Lemmy/threadiverse is WAY bigger than either one, but is regularly left out of the conversation. I honestly don’t get it.
But all they did was market their pretty good lane-assist and automated braking as a magic butler that lets you nap in the driver’s seat.

There’s a real argument for a Mastodon use case for news organizations, governments, and colleges.
If they’re just seeking engagement, then they have to wait for the platform to grow. But this isn’t about that.
Many news organizations already have comment sections on their website, and they want to push out information on breaking news as quickly as possible. They need a platform to do those things. So, a lot of them use Facebook for embedded comments on the page and Xitter to breaking news. The thing is that they could use mastodon for both, and run their own instance, which would give them total control and not be at the mercy of Musk or Zuck.
Colleges use expensive proprietary messaging apps for students, clubs, and teachers that they can monitor and adjust to fit their needs. Mastodon offers that.
Governments sometimes end up in legal hot water due to freedom of information, etc. that comes with corporate social media. Mastodon offers the freedoms and controls necessary to disseminate vital information and to allow or reject posts as required by local laws.
The point is that Mastodon is an effective public facing communication system that also allows internal controls by the host.
The only publicity and marketing budget that the fediverse has is us, so any opportunity to promote it is our job. Government, education, news. These are the vital areas to promote.

She doesn’t mention that the MBA professor who authored the infographic also seems to contract with FounderPartners, a VC consulting firm.
So this is really an ad for his side gig; “Pay us lots of money, and we’ll justify your layoffs with sciency mumbo jumbo.🌈😘📈”
