didn’t realize people had issues with .webp
MacOS must have native support, I don’t recall installing anything but they work fine in Preview and Quick Look

years ago they used to have phone cases with a bluetooth keyboard so you could slide it open and it would be pretty similar to having a keyboard integrated right in the phone
must not have been popular cause I don’t really see them anymore
yeah I downloaded tiktok to see what the deal was
I am immediately bombarded with some stupid auto play video I didn’t ask for, so I swipe it away
which just sends me another stupid video in an endless stream of garbage
I’ll never understand this type of social media, it truly felt like idiocracy
I know peertube already exists, but I wonder if a federated app specifically for short videos (to reduce data storage costs) could find some success?
would probably also need to use some intense video compression technology before upload to further reduce file sizes
yeah sometimes it is helpful to have lower volume of content
reddit is like trying to drink from a bot infested firehose
the fediverse is like sipping on a nice wine/coffee/tea, etc with your friends
quality over quantity as they say
from the main feed tap the star icon in the top left corner, that should open a list of your subscriptions
this is my experience as well
I’ve been unhappy with the quality at reddit for years but there was no reasonable alternative that I knew about
I had heard about Mastodon but never really researched the wider fediverse until recently
now I will pretty much never use any corporate owned website again and will exclusively use federated software
I used PowerDeleteSuite to nuke my posts/comments and two days later everything was back
luckily I kept the account itself intact so I have been methodically deleting my comments/posts manually, and so far those have stayed gone
I think they detected when people were using scripts and just reverted those changes
fuck you Mocha Joe spez!
it’s crypto gambling stuff
nope, there is another app called memmy
memmy is still in early alpha/beta and resembles Apollo, but it’s pretty good already
currently there is an ios version in testflight but the dev is also working on an android version (not yet available but they said it is about 90% ready)
or the people who now see an opportunity to take over a sub and power-trip
there is no good outcome for reddit with this situation
should be fairly trivial to set up a bot that takes an RSS feed input and then posts the items to a fediverse community
that would require users to subscribe to the specific fediverse community instead of the source RSS feed though
in fact, I follow a Mastodon bot that does exactly this with Steam Deck release notes RSS feed and it works well!
@steamdeckupdate@hometech.social
hmm, I guess the responsibility is partially on me to manually find/follow people from other instances to increase the cross-instance federation?
right now I am creating new accounts on all the different fediverse platforms so I can see which UI/UX I prefer, but I would like to eventually use only 1 or 2 accounts if possible
so I signed up for a Calckey account (on calckey.world) but content is extremely limited compared to what I see on Mastodon?
for example: if I search for the hashtag #F1 on calckey the most recent post it finds is from a week ago
this whole federation thing is still a bit confusing at times about what gets federated and where, #F1 is pretty popular on Mastodon.social when I search
for anyone following lemmy from mastodon, is there any way to sort posts by top/hot?
I tried to look up lemmy communities but the feed in mastodon was basically a chronological dump and not optimal
ideally there would be a client that can do chronological feeds AND the reddit-esque post view where items are ranked somehow
I guess kbin.social is the closest thing but I don’t really like their overall interface and it keeps going down or is super slow
according to the github they intend to make an android version as well, so keep your eyes peeled!
I’m using the ios version and it is really good for such an early app
I got be honest, that makes me want to try out Comodo Dragon Browser
