The professor that taught my algorithms & data structures course said if we were going to keep one book it should be the one for that course. I followed that advice and it’s the one textbook I still have. It’s been 8 years since graduation and I haven’t opened it once. I tend to just read Wikipedia if I need to understand a particular algorithm or data structure.

Ehh I wouldn’t say variables in programming are all that similar to variables in algebra. In a programming language, variables typically are just a name for some data. Whereas in algebra, they are placeholders for unknown values.

If you’re at work, it’s not really “your” data. It’s “your company’s” data. And your company might be collecting even more data on you than Microsoft.

It’s been a long time since I set it up, but I have Microsoft accounts in my usual TOTP app (Aegis). Maybe I did it manually? But it’s definitely possible.

One of the great things about Linux is that you can almost always just run whatever distro from the USB drive before installing (and just reboot without the USB drive to get back into Windows) So you can download a few ISOs and try each one for a bit before committing to anything.

This is nice if there’s anything specific that you need to work, you can try it and make sure it’s usable for you before making any permanent changes.

For example, I’m legally blind and use a screen magnifier. I tried a few distros to compare the built-in magnifiers before settling on one.

I’d also recommend using Ventoy on your USB. That lets you just plop ISO files on the drive and choose which one at boot.

I’m guessing it’d be cheaper for MS to just keep providing security updates for Win10 than to create a whole Linux distro…

I usually just use high power. I should try this sometime, although I don’t tend to have issues with stuff having cold spots. Something I think that helps is stirring stuff half way through and letting it sit for a min after it’s done.

What is /dev/pty23? From context, I assume another users terminal so it just spams garbage to their screen?

It should be like music. You can sign up for basically any service (Spotify, YouTube Music, Apple Music, etc) and generally hear any song. It would be ridiculous if each record label or whatever had its own streaming service, so why are TV & movies different?

But that doesn’t do anything to mitigate using the same password/phrase on multiple services.

Occasionally I’ll go to a subreddit on mobile browser and half the time I can’t view it due to mature content. If I really care then I’ll go to old.reddit but often I’ll just back out.
