Yes. My previous job used Linux (and OpenVPN), but I started a new job recently, which involves Windows 10 (and three separate VPN apps) on my workstation, and it’s driving me insane! I can’t even find half the settings in looking for, the start menu is a mess (until I found OpenShell which introduces an XP like start menu!), and the eternal requests to restart the damn thing. It drives me nuts.

I am amazed that anyone can browse the web or watch YouTube without ad blocking.

Whenever I see someone (nearly anyone) else’s phone or pc being absolutely inundated with ads I can’t help but wonder if they’re allright in the head. There are so many mobile games that I never knew were ad-ridden until I saw them on someone else’s screen … eg. Wordfeud, there’s apparently a video ad playing each time you submit a word. Wtaf…

They had one more thing that was the bomb back when 56kbit was enviable, and that was that when you turned off the image loading (some browsers still support “offline” mode, this was a subset of that) it would still display any images that it had in its cache - so you could read your news with the common page elements rendered but not spend time downloading huge article images.

Question, finally asked: Where do you get an ad free youtube client these days? Surely, posting a direct link here on Lemmy is not against rules?

I’d been using Revanced for quite a while, but then it eventually got caught up with and it stopped working. There was some hullabaloo about “fake” Revanced clones, and now I hear it’s transformed into a “patcher”. Only, on my phone I get a warning saying the patching may not work due to my processor or kernel or such – and lo, it does not, the patching throws an exception late-ish in the process and I’m left with an unpatched youtube app.
