  • I mean, how about my boring example from work the other day? I wanted to double check whether priority mail had guaranteed delivery timeframes before telling a customer that they did not and if she needed something by a specific day she should use UPS. When I searched “is priority mail delivery date guaranteed”, the first real answer, from USPS’s website, was a resounding no, just like I thought. Guess what Google’s AI told me? “Priority mail is a guaranteed service, so you can choose it knowing that your package will be delivered on the projected date.”

It’s fucking stupid. It’s wrong. It should not be at the top of search results.

  • They’re not being made fun of for being white cishet men. They’re being made fun of for being privileged and whinging about other people now receiving the rights to which they felt they alone were entitled. Being privileged is not something you are born with, it is something granted to you by an unjust society. Crying about others being granted rights as if it will affect them negatively is a choice they are making. This is not about them being cishet white dudes. It is about them choosing to resist progress because it might mean they don’t get treated like the super special kiddies our society has always treated them as.

That you are equating “haha these privileged people are overreacting to minorities no longer having boots on their necks” with “boo hoo, you’re saying all white cishet dudes are bad” tells me all I need to know. I won’t be able to change your mind, so have fun feeling persecuted 💜

  • You know, I really, really think you’re reading something into this that isn’t there. What, exactly, strikes you as hate here? What in this meme is “demonizing language”? It’s a joke pointing out that privileged people tend to panic and lash out when the people who have historically had fewer privileges than them start receiving help to level the playing field, as if life is some kind of zero-sum game and others being treated better suddenly means they’ll get treated worse. This is a well-recognized truth that applies broadly across privileged populations and has been remarked upon by many people through the years of building civil liberties for minorities of all stripes, and this meme is just poking a bit of fun at it. No one thinks that literally every single cishet white dude is panicking that they’ll be up against the wall if minorities ask to be treated better. I’m really confused at your apparently visceral reaction against this so-called “hate”.

Lol that’s fair, but since those words in that combination barely even make sense to me I tried to dumb it down more and ended up being wrong 😂

I’m the idiot who searches stack for code and copies and pastes it into the project so no one should listen to me anyway.

It’s a markup language. In the simplest explanation, a programming language describes a process (what does the thing do) while a markup language describes a structure (how is the thing supposed to be displayed). There’s more to it than that, but someone else can get into deeper if they want, it’s beyond me lol

It’s more trying to indicate the tongue placement - an N sounds different depending on whether you place it at the front of the tongue or back of the tongue. Back of the tongue is much more nasal, which is frequently associated with French accents, and could sound almost like an “ng” sound to someone less familiar with nasal pronunciations.

  • People (idiots) prefer therapeutic to preventative because of shitty/misattributed confirmation bias. If they get the shots and don’t get sick, it’s not because of the shots, it’s because they weren’t ever going to get sick anyway. If they get sick, take something, and get better, it’s because of whatever they took. They can’t see the vaccine helping them, so it isn’t happening, and if it isn’t happening, then it’s worthless, and if it’s worthless but someone’s trying to “make” you take it anyway, it’s cause they have an ulterior motive.

  • Hardness absolutely matters in rings. Not as much in pendants or earrings, but people don’t realize how rough they are with their hands. Most people do not take their rings off to wash their hands, or do their laundry, or, or, or. So many things have unexpected abrasives that may just feel a little rough on your skin, but can significantly damage a soft stone like opal. In a rush and accidentally bang your hand against the door frame? Chipped opal. Back of your hand itches, so you rub it against your jeans briefly? Scratched opal. They’re very fragile stones.
